Eucalyptus is used to bring fresh energy to a situation, to heal regrets and worries, and to relieve mental exhaustion.   • The leaves and oil of the Eucalyptus tree are often used to make teas, inhalants, and other preparations that are said to help relieve cold and flu symptoms, as well as sinus infections.
  • Studies on Eucalyptus leaf extract have shown it can help relieve upper respiratory tract infections, such as bronchitis and sinusitis.

    (In one study, participants who took a daily dose of Eucalyptus leaf extract for 7 days had a significant reduction in their symptoms compared to those who took a placebo.)

  • The name Eucalyptus comes from two Ancient Greek words. Eu, which means “good, beautiful, or well,” and kalypto, “cover, or hide,” refer to the operculum that covers the flower buds.
  • In 1777, the type specimen was found by David Nelson. A gardener and botanist who was on Cook’s third voyage. He got the sample on Bruny Island and sent it to de Brunelle, working in London.
  • Eucalyptus trees are native to Australia and are widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions around the world.
  • In Australia, the Eucalyptus tree is a symbol of healing and regeneration.
  • It is a genus of over 700 species of evergreen trees and shrubs in the myrtle family Myrtaceae. The genus is widespread across the tropical and southern temperate regions of the Old World, Africa, and tropical Asia.
  • Many countries give this tree some respect.
